Our
purpose
Be the leading reference in the transition, offering clarity & guidance in order to move forward together towards a more sustainable future.
30-40% of the GHG emissions are generated by the built environment. We are all aware that the climate is changing, and we need to take immediate action to mitigate its impacts and adapt to it.
The goals for 2050 is set: all new and existing building projects should be GHG neutral. But how to get there?
The BGBC aims to steer this Belgian transition towards climate-neutral buildings by creating the reference platform to engage all real estate sector leaders to translate the climate goals into pragmatic, workable and economically feasible standards.
Our mission
When speaking the same language, we can achieve great things!
Belgian Green Building Council will create 1 common language, understood by and tailored to all real estate sectors, in order to define & set common definitions, metrics and offer guidelines how to deal with the challenges ahead of us when dealing with the transition towards sustainable buildings.
What are our roles?
The BGBC positions itself as the leading reference in the transition:
- Create clarity and actionable pathways in a very complex environment
- Set the norm for achieving jointly the sustainable goals
- Collect data & monitor progress on Belgian real estate evolutions
- Foster creativity and innovation
- Be a trusted partner in the ecosystem
- Connect members to create common understandings, sharing best practices and knowledge
- Harmonize practices and connect the 3 regions
- Connect the federations in Belgium
- Cooperate with public authorities in creating actionable rules and guidelines
Our first action(s)?
Program “Foundation”
When creating a (new) common language, it is crucial to truly listen to each sector and its interests, challenges and ambitions when it comes to sustainable buildings. A thorough mapping of every sector’s need will be step 0 when creating this common language. Once this is defined, the creation of pathways, metrics to monitor its progress and the ultimate goal(s) can be designed.
Secondly, the Belgian Green Building will bring clarity in the complex environment we are acting in, by offering a clear overview of existing knowledge and initiatives, its relevance for each sector and how we can build further by collaboration or knowledge exchange.
